… The new checklist includes altogether more than 330 Austrian arthropod species, insects as well as arachnids. The species are listed in the following four contributions: 1) ”Protura (Insecta)”; author: Erhard Christian, Vienna. Currently 58 species are reliably recorded from Austria; records of another eight species are doubtful. 2) “Opiliones (Arachnida)”; author: Christian Komposch, Graz. 62 species resp. subspecies are listed, two are endemic. It can be estimated that soon the number of harvestmen species recorded in Austria will increase. 3) “Pseudoscorpiones (Arachnida)”; author: Volker Mahnert, Geneve. Until now 71 species were found in Austria, two of them for the first time. Seven species can be considered as endemic taxa. 4) “Tipulidae (Insecta: Diptera)” – The Austrian checklist of this family contents 141 species, but three species had to be removed because the presence in Austria within the present borders is dubious. Some species seem to be endemic. In the contributions some ecological and zoogeographical details are added, but also for each group of animals mentioned an information about the history of exploration in Austria.
