Digital transformation is in full progress across almost all areas of public administration. However, digitalisation presents the State Offices and authorities with considerable challenges, not only due to the lack of essential resources such as technical infrastructure and trained personnel, but also because the process has revealed the vast quantities of analogue data – of highly varying quality – that existed and in many cases still exist. A central step in this process is the migration and consolidation of existing data and formats into a system that is as flexible as possible – an undertaking that has been successfully implemented in recent years within the field of built heritage conservation at the State Office for Heritage Management and Archaeology of Saxony-Anhalt. This approach allows data to be successively added, corrected and interlinked during ongoing operations, while interfaces can be continuously adapted. As a result, a holistic approach to both the processing and evaluation of heritage-related procedures becomes possible.
