Guest editors: David Coleman, Dalkhat Ediev

The 2009 issue of the Vienna Yearbook of Population Research focuses on the impact of migration on demographic change and composition in Europe. The issue discusses long-term demographic and economic consequences of migration flows in Europe in 21st Century and highlights uncertainties about the more immediate impact of the current economic crisis on different types of international migration in Europe. , The issue also provides an empirical assessment on whether the rising pension burden in Europe could be mitigated by immigration and looks at the impact of immigration on population growth and structure in Greece and in Italian regions. The volume closes with a methodological contribution on multiregional population modelling, which is a useful tool to incorporate impact of migration on population dynamics, and an overview of recent migration trends in Europe
